It is to fully recognize the essence of the subject by giving undivided attention to it. A portrait is an icon, with concentrated personal, emotional and spiritual expression embodied in the closest likeness of the model.
I want to create realms where I can finally have enough space all for myself, without feeling isolated. These worlds I enter have to have coherent and valid laws of their owndifferent from those of the outside worldwhich instead of being dogmatic and limiting, invite the vast and unexpected. I intend to make hidden, inner, as well as limitless outer spaces visiblethus validating their existence.
Process is crucial to me. Several layers of paint are applied, inventing methods that let the materials act on their own impulse, counting on accidents and random marks. Examples are dripping watery paint that runs, or the sticking together of wood panels where the manipulation of paint happens while the images are hidden.
My work in progress entails semi-symmetrical, mirrored visions, specifically exploring the meaning and significance of the differences that occur between these cloned images.
